The Singer Or The Song?

Is it a great singer that makes a good song great, or is it that a great song makes an average singer sound great?

There are many great performers, and being Welsh two come to mind immediately: Shirley Bassey & Tom Jones (both reported to be playing in this years Diamond Jubilee celebrations). And there's no doubt that they can make any song sound great.

Many artistes have proved their worth with their longevity in the music business, like Elton John, Madonna and - more recently - Robbie Williams, Lady Gaga and Adele. I'm sure you could name many more. And with the same token, there are many one-hit wonders, having just one great song, with a good voice which then disappear from the charts never to be heard of again.

There are many songs sung by not such a great singer also hitting the top of the charts - Lee Marvin singing "Wondering Star" comes to mind. There is also the quality of the production of the record. The Beatles were masters of these, with songs like “Hello Goodbye”, which proved that point. With hardly any lyrics and a repetitive tune, it is magnificently and cleverly produced to bring out a piece of art.

So, is it the singer or the song? Certainly the right song for the right singer is the ideal combination. As well as writing melodic instrumentals for businesses to use Royalty Free for their projects (currently available at www.royaltyfreemusic.me.uk), I also write lyrical songs, as well as love songs.

I write lyrics on many different and interesting topics, and if you are a singer or a band looking for original songs, please aslo check out http://vibedeck.com/eirianlys.

The X Factor Is No Factor In Real Muisc

People ask me as a musician of what I think of shows like the X-Factor.

Personally, I think that in regards to this show, we need to get one thing in perspective - and that it is to realise that it is nothing but a show - a competition and a talent show created simply for TV entertainment purposes. It's not about real music or musicians.

All it is, is a totally over-hyped, out-of-all-proportion production created by a TV studio in the editing suite, with the sensationalism of the national and world media, which is then is all helped along by Simon Cowell. And he is a person who knows all too well that all publicity (good or bad) is essentially all good.

It is absolutely not the be-all-and-end-all of music. In fact, one would argue it has very little - if anything - to do with music at all. The basic fact of the show is that even though they look like they're trying different genres of music, their basic format is exactly the same. They do not try anything creative or new, and most certainly no one is allowed to write new songs for it.

So my final answer in regards to what I think of the X-Factor? It is not music, it does not represent music, and there is no creativity involved. Except on the behalf of the press and production company, perhaps. Real musicians write real music, and that is where real music can be found - with them.

This is why, on my Royalty Free Music site - http://www.royaltyfreemusic.me.uk/ - I try to write not only different genres, but also different formats, and I try to be creative and melodic in my ideas.

I am a person who believes more in the music rather than the celebrities.

Just take a listen to my site and you will understand what I mean.
